Ethics – May 18, 2018
Define ethics and ethical responsibility; review process for evaluation a dilemma; apply ethical decision making process to scenarios for application to practice; review each element in NAADAC code, combined with scenarios to sort through dilemmas vs ethical violations; discuss confidentiality and HIPAA and parameters for disclosure and protection of identifying information.
Shame and Addiction – September 21, 2018
To explore concept of shame and addiction and their implications in treatment.
Cultural Competencies – November 9, 2018
To provide the participant with information necessary to evaluate cultural competence, and to explore areas of professional development that would enhance the participant’s cultural approach to the way they deliver clinical services.
Classes approved by GACA, ADACB-GA, NAADAC and Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists. CEs approved for 6 hours.
Diane Sherman, PhD, MAC, CCS
Dr. Diane Sherman has been in the substance abuse profession since 1975, beginning her career while serving in the U.S. Army for 15 years as a Behavioral Science Specialist. Dr. Sherman earned her Doctorate in Industrial / Organizational Psychology from Capella University in 2007. Dr. Sherman has presented at national conferences and state sponsored schools of addiction studies in the southeast on topics relevant to treatment of substance use disorders. Since 2008, she has taught and supervised students who are in pursuit of the substance use professional credential. Dr. Sherman is the past President of the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association. She also served on the board of the Georgia School of Addiction Studies and, in 2015, was honored to receive the Bruce Hoopes Pioneer Award in Addiction Treatment, a personally meaningful award, as it is named to honor a trusted colleague and former Georgia state authority of substance abuse services. She is an author and anticipates the release of her second book, Facilitated Growth: Experiential Activities for Recovery and Wellness, in Spring 2017.
Marc Pimsler, MAC, LAPC, CCS, ACRPS, CYT, RRT-C Class
Since 2004, Marc Pimsler has worked in a variety of counseling and consulting capacities in and around the metro Atlanta area. Marc is the Executive Clinical Director for Safety Net Recovery and is a sought after trainer with ACTS Consulting. Marc maintains a private practice where he serves individuals and families in need of substance abuse counseling specializing in addressing Shame and Trauma. Marc is proud to serve on the ethics committee for the Georgia Addiction Counselor Association. He is certified as a national addictions counselor, certified clinical supervisor, certified yoga and meditation teacher, and is also a certified practitioner with the Institute for Rapid Resolution Therapy. Marc is passionate about recovery, both his own as well as his clients’, believing that sometimes all we need is a helping hand and a fresh perspective. Grounded in the belief system that everyone has the capacity to recover, Marc brings humor and spirituality to everything he is involved in.
